thanks

vvv

thanks so much for reading and putting as much thought as you always do into reading and thinking about my stuff.

i've been out of the country for a few weeks so haven't been able to read any of it til now but was excited to.

it's really a great thing to move from having one's work only moving around one's own head and office, to having someone else read it, especially someone you respect. even more i love the idea of this being an exchange, of my getting to read your works-in-progress or ideas for work, or collaborating on something, shuttling it back and forth.

yes, those blondie darkie things you got quite right in terms of finish...the first one was the only one revised...maybe the second one too..the later ones not at all. i don't think i ever told you but there are about twenty chapters to it, so this is only the beginning. on the other hand i could totally see cutting out 70% of what's written. depends! i am going to keep posting them along with other things i'm writing or digging up to rework.

thank you for the helpful comments, and please know i will always take your comments as coming from a generous and constructive place. let's agree that whatever commentary made in here will be foremost dedicated to us getting better, that real honest and uncompromising critique is necessary for us to do good work. of course, comments will be relative to what something is...as you have done, not criticizing my rough drafts for grammar, for instance.

useful to hear about the self-reflexivity. yes, it does need to go, you're right, and yes, it d oes reflect my uncertainty while writing, liberating to think it out loud at the time but it has no place in the final draft.

when you slow down a little i would love to chat with you a little about creativity stuff. art, film, writing.

my friend tony gets married this weekend so i'll be up in SF after Wednesday.
